Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy started in July 2010, with the mission of developing globally competitive leaders by creating a rigorous college prep environment. As of August 2017, CSKYWLA has undertaken steps to become a STEM Certified school, meaning the curriculum and experiences of the school will meet nationally recognized standards of excellence. These standards include:
Supporting groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM programs
Creating inquiry-based learning environments that encourage students to find creative solutions to real world problems
Using technology to conduct research, demonstrate critical thinking, and effective communication skills
Assessing students in performance-based settings that allows students to express their conclusions through explanations of their thinking.
