The Lab of Ornithology at Cornell University is hosting a two day research camp for youth aged 15-21, where participants will learn about careers in science and conservation through studying urban bird populations. Researchers will band birds, record sounds in the forests of upstate New York, create conservation themed art, and learn about citizen science! Up to five lucky girls from CSKYWLA will be able to participate in this fun research opportunity, thanks to a scholarship from Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

Springtime means new growth, and the edible garden at CSKYWLA got a face lift just in time! Thanks to a donation of tires from that became raised planters and seeds generously donated from the Atlanta Botanical Garden, a group of middle school girls learned about planting seeds, the biology of edible plants, and the composting process. The girls were led by Ms. Peña, the science coordinator, Ms. Hampton, and Georgia State students. Mrs. Washington, the principal, also came out to lend a helping hand!

Honeybee Hive Learning CenterStarting March 1st, 2018, CSKYWLA has an indoor beehive learning center! Students are able to learn about the life cycles and group dynamics of honeybees, as well as learn about the impact bees have on our environment. The bees are more than just a learning experience: they also help pollinate the plants in the CSK Edible Garden!
